For a fourth year in a row, Mr. Shaw was named a “Rising Star” by Los Angeles Magazine – a distinction recognizing the top two and one-half percent of attorneys under age 40 for excellence in the practice of law.

 

Mr. Shaw is a Shareholder at Call & Jensen.  His practice is primarily concentrated in intellectual property and employment law litigation and counseling.  He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in claims involving trademark, copyright, unfair competition, trade dress, and trade secrets.  He has also represented employers in all aspects of employment litigation, including wage and hour class and individual claims, federal and state discrimination claims, and wrongful termination.  Mr. Shaw has particular expertise in representing clients in the apparel/textile, retail, action sports, financial, telecommunications, and technology industries.  Additionally, Mr. Shaw engages in a wide variety of general business litigation, including experience involving complex commercial disputes, business torts, and class actions.

 

 

Recently, Mr. Shaw has enjoyed success handling copyright and trademark lawsuits on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in federal courts across the country.  Mr. Shaw was part of a trial team that obtained a $47.4 million jury verdict in a copyright infringement action.  He also obtained numerous dismissals with prejudice on behalf of various companies in fabric design copyright infringement actions.   In one copyright infringement action, the plaintiff agreed to dismiss the case with prejudice and pay Mr. Shaw’s client $20,000 to settle the case.

 

In addition to intellectual property disputes, Mr. Shaw has successfully represented small and large companies in general business and employment litigation.  He recently served as co-lead counsel on behalf of a local retail company and obtained a unanimous jury verdict in favor of the defense.  Additionally, Mr. Shaw assisted a prominent financial institution in a multi-day arbitration trial and achieved a $1.4 million victory.

 

Prior to joining the firm in March 2006, Mr. Shaw was an associate with Jones Day in Los Angeles for approximately four years, where he handled a broad array of commercial litigation matters.  Mr. Shaw served as lead counsel in numerous cases arising under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, all of which were resolved favorably either through settlement or dismissal.

 

Education

Mr. Shaw graduated from USC Law School in 2002 where he was a member of the Interdisciplinary Law Journal.  Also during law school, Mr. Shaw served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Consuelo B. Marshall for the United States District Court, Central District of California.  Mr. Shaw graduated with high honors from University of California at Santa Barbara in 1999.
