Matthew Peters
ASSOCIATE
Matthew Peters represents clients in a broad range of civil litigation matters, including constitutional law, high-exposure tort litigation, employment disputes, breach of contract claims, and real property issues. He has extensive experience handling all phases of litigation in both state and federal courts.
Before joining Call & Jensen, Mr. Peters served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Long Beach, where he led the City’s police liability and civil rights defense practice. In that role, he advised the Long Beach Police Department and City leadership on policy development, training, and risk management. He has tried multiple jury cases, securing full defense verdicts in high-exposure matters as first chair in both federal and state courts, and has also assisted in obtaining defense verdicts in wrongful death and employment cases.
In addition to his trial work, Mr. Peters has significant appellate experience, having drafted and successfully argued matters before the California Court of Appeal and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Before joining Call & Jensen, Mr. Peters built his litigation foundation at a Newport Beach firm, where he managed personal injury matters through every stage – from client intake to final resolution.
Mr. Peters earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Whittier Law School, where he served as Senior Articles Editor of the Whittier Law Review and was a member of both the Trial Advocacy and Moot Court Honors Boards. He was also a competitor on the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Team and received multiple CALI Awards in subjects including Evidence, Constitutional Law, and Legal Writing. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
