Matthew Peters

Matthew Peters is an Attorney at Call & Jensen whose litigation practice is anchored by a rare combination of trial experience, appellate skill, and deep expertise in constitutional law and civil rights defense. Before entering private practice, Matthew served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Long Beach, where he led the City’s police liability and civil rights defense practice — advising the Long Beach Police Department and City leadership on policy development, training, and risk management, and trying multiple jury cases to full defense verdicts as first chair in both state and federal courts.

That public sector foundation gives Matthew a perspective on high-exposure litigation that most private practice attorneys simply do not have.

Civil Litigation Practice

Matthew represents clients across a broad range of complex civil matters, including:

  • Constitutional law and civil rights defense
  • High-exposure tort litigation
  • Employment disputes
  • Breach of contract claims
  • Real property matters

He has extensive experience handling all phases of litigation in both state and federal courts, and has assisted in obtaining defense verdicts in wrongful death and employment matters in addition to his first-chair trial wins.

Appellate Practice

Matthew has significant appellate experience, having drafted and successfully argued matters before the California Court of Appeal and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit — a combination that reflects his ability to protect client wins long after the trial court verdict.

Background

Before joining Call & Jensen, Matthew built his litigation foundation at a Newport Beach firm, where he managed personal injury matters through every stage — from client intake to final resolution.
